Nitrogen production by PSA
The technology of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) allows to supply nitrogen at a purity of up to 6.0 / 1.0 ppm (residual oxygen) by quantity of 0,5 – 10.000 Nm³/h. The PSA technology is based on the separation of nitrogen and oxygen molecules from compressed dry air in an adsorption column filled by carbon molecular sieve (CMS).

The PSA process for nitrogen generation can be divided into two phases: pressurization/adsorption of oxygen and depressurization/desorption of oxygen. In the initial phase, the CMS adsorbs oxygen under high-pressure conditions and pure nitrogen leaves the column outlet as a product gas. In the second phase, the adsorber is depressurized to atmospheric pressure and oxygen molecules release the column. Typical PSA line consists of two adsorption columns, which are alternately charged with compressed air and de-pressurized. Thus the quasi-continuous process of nitrogen generation can be achieved.

Continuous measurement of temperature and pressure of compressed air as well as pressure and purity of nitrogen guarantees the required quality of product. Every PSA column is equipped by INMATEC touch control panel, which displays the measured values and allows operator to control the process directly at the unit or distantly.
